Flying to Israel on a GA private flight                                                                Flying in Israel

There are 2 international airports serving as point of entry to Israel, with custom and passport control. The large and busy one is LLBG - Ben Gurion near Tel Aviv with all international facilities, including the need for handling agent .
The second one is LLHA - Haifa city airport which is smaller, more quite & convenient, less busy and does not require handling and bus transportation, in addition to the fact that our members can welcome and help at the apron with your baggage and refueling.

It is required to apply for GA Arrival/landing permit ( security clearance )  by submitting  the application form, 2-3 weeks in advance to the planed flight ( see below the link to the ASOC form ) . How ever keep in mind that Haifa airport is only operational by VMC.

Below you will find links to:  Israel A.I.P (English edition), Aircraft & Passengers Fees and charges on International flights and other initial necessary information.

The fees at LCLK / LCPH are dramatically reduced for a technical stop ( refueling ), with the following reservations: The crew will stay at or near a/c, no buses will be used , flight plan and meteorological folder would be supported and given as courtesy at no additional cost .The landing charge would be ~
50 in total. Application to be submitted a week prior to landing, to the under signed person for coordination and confirmation. Fees to be paid via credit card through the Israeli local agent (Aaron) or to be paid by pilot directly at Cyprus airport in cash ( no credit cards !!! to avoid staff spending time going to the office and back for card approval !!!) Flying in Israel - the privilege of foreign licensed , non Israeli PPL

One must file a flight plan at the IAA center, for every flight ! at least 30 minute prior to Take off !

By local regulations, Foreign licensed pilots are not allowed to fly on VFR routes.

Since most of the airports and airfields are not equipped for IFR approaches it is not practical to plan an IFR tour in the country.

Validation procedure requires written exams ( aeronautical law, radio operation, navigation, technical knowledge ) as well as practical flight test with CAA examiner, it might take few weeks to complete and it is valid for one year only.

The practical way to have a one time flight is to rent a plane with a local flight instructor in the right seat. The other possible way is to find a local licensed pilot and join a ride by calling local AOPA office

Available flight schools to rent a plane are : In north of Israel LLHA - Haifa, LLMG - Megido(*), central region : LLHZ – Herzeliya, LLSD - Sde Dov and in the south at LLBS – Beer Sheba(*) or  LLMZ - Messada(*).            (*) private Airfield

Partial list of flying schools / rent a plane: MoonAir  SKY  F.N.A  Golden wings  Megido Air  FlyHigh  Ayit

Most popular planes are Cessna 152 / 172. Also available Piper Cherokee 6 and few twins. The cost of renting C 172 is about USD 220.- per hour ( all included )  plus instructor fees ~ USD 80.-;
LL100 Fuel cost ~
1.6 per liter as off 1.5.2012.

If you are planning to visit Israel and fly, you better look, well in advance, for more information about the possibilities.

You are welcome to contact AOPA Israel at any time for assistance and further information.
